Therapy looks a little different for everyone because no two people come in with the same experiences, goals, or challenges. We take a collaborative approach, meaning we'll work together to understand what's bringing you in, identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and develop practical tools that support meaningful change.
The first few sessions are focused on getting to know you—your history, your relationships, your strengths, and what you'd like to be different. You don't need to have everything figured out before you start. It's completely okay if you're unsure where to begin or even skeptical about therapy. We’ll build the foundation together.
Therapy can be incredibly effective, though there are no guaranteed outcomes. Meaningful change takes time, consistency, and effort from both of us. The work we do during our sessions lays the foundation, and the growth often happens in the moments between sessions as you begin applying new insights, practicing new skills, and approaching life's challenges in different ways. We’ll guide you through this process, and your engagement with the work is one of the strongest predictors of meaningful progress.

Finding the right therapist matters. Therapy works best when you feel comfortable, understood, and able to build a trusting relationship with the person sitting across from you. I encourage prospective clients to ask questions, learn about different approaches, and trust their instincts when deciding who they'd like to work with.
Our priority is making sure you feel comfortable, understood, and confident that you're working with someone who is the right fit for you. If it seems another provider would better meet your needs, we’re always happy to help point you in the right direction.

There are many excellent therapists, and the right fit ultimately depends on what you're looking for. What is unique to our practice is the way we've been trained and the standards we’re used to upholding.
The way we became therapists has shaped the way we practice today. Long before graduate school, I worked in challenging and often unconventional mental health settings, and throughout my career I've continued to work in environments where clinical decisions are held to a high level of scrutiny and accountability. Along the way, both Meghan and I have been fortunate to learn from exceptional mentors and supervisors who have challenged us to keep growing as clinicians.
You'll also find that we're pretty straightforward. We ask difficult questions, give honest feedback, and aren't afraid to challenge you when it serves your goals. At the same time, we believe therapy works best when you feel like you're talking to a real person.

The standard fee for a 50 minute individual therapy session is $125. Fees for intakes, consultation services, and family therapy vary based on the service provided.
High Desert Psychotherapy is currently in-network with Anthem, United, Aetna, Cigna, and CO Medicaid. If you plan to use insurance, your out-of-pocket cost will depend on your individual plan and may include a copay, coinsurance, or deductible. We recommend checking with your insurance company to better understand your mental health benefits before your first appointment.
If you have questions about your coverage, we’re happy to help verify your benefits and explain what they mean before we get started. While I make every effort to provide accurate information, insurance companies ultimately determine eligibility and payment, so we cannot guarantee coverage or the amount you may owe.
If we’re not in-network with your insurance plan, you may still be able to use out-of-network benefits. Upon request, we can provide a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.
If cost is a concern, please don't hesitate to ask. we’re happy to discuss fees, insurance, and payment options so you have a clear understanding of what to expect before scheduling your first appointment.

Most clients begin therapy by meeting once a week. As therapy progresses and your goals evolve, we may decide together to meet less frequently, such as every other week or monthly.
The overall length of therapy varies from person to person. Some clients are looking for support with a specific challenge over a relatively short period of time, while others choose to engage in longer-term therapy to work through more complex or longstanding concerns. We'll regularly check in on your goals and make decisions together about the frequency and duration of treatment based on your needs.
