Emily Stein (Prigmore), LCSW
Hi! I’m Emily, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Colorado and founder of High Desert Psychotherapy!
For much of my life, I was skeptical of therapy myself. I know that opening up to someone you barely know can feel uncomfortable, vulnerable, or even pointless. That's why I don't expect you to walk into the first session ready to trust the process—we can build that together. What I love most about this work is the opportunity to genuinely know another person, understand how their story has shaped them, and help them recognize their strengths, build resilience, and create meaningful change.
Over the past decade, I've worked with adolescents and families in both inpatient and outpatient settings, survivors of sexual assault, individuals involved in the criminal justice system, and adults navigating the all-too-relatable challenges of overwhelm and chronic stress. From leading group therapy to conducting forensic evaluations, I've learned that every person's story deserves to be understood within the context of their experiences.
Therapy with me is active, collaborative, and rooted in curiosity. I'll ask questions, share observations, and help you notice patterns that may have gone unseen for years. Together, we'll work to understand how your relationships, experiences, and ways of thinking have shaped the life you're living today. I use this as the starting point to build self-compassion, work on letting go of what no longer serves you and expand upon your existing strengths. Insight becomes meaningful through practicing new ways of responding to yourself and the world, again and again. I’m here to help you explore options; what got you here does not have to get you there.
Offering in-person and virtual sessions Tuesdays-Thursdays.
